Dates from the Federal Reserve. The decision is at 2pm New York time and the Fed Chair's press conference at 2:30pm. Minutes come out three weeks later.

US data follows New York time. For a week or two in spring and autumn the UK and US change their clocks on different dates, so it lands an hour earlier in UK time. Those weeks are marked. 2026: 25 Oct to 1 Nov. 2027: 14 Mar to 28 Mar.

What it means for gold

A softer (dovish) Fed is usually bullish for gold. A tougher (hawkish) Fed is usually bearish. The press conference often moves gold more than the decision. Read the full guide.

Questions people ask

What time is the Fed decision in the UK?

19:00 UK time on most dates (2pm New York time), with the press conference at 19:30 UK. On 28 October 2026 it is 18:00 UK, because the UK clocks change a week before the US.

How many Fed meetings are there a year?

Eight. Four of them (March, June, September, December) come with the Fed's own forecasts for interest rates, often called the dot plot.

How does the Fed affect gold?

Gold pays no interest, so anything that changes the path of US rates can move it. A softer (dovish) Fed is usually bullish for gold; a tougher (hawkish) Fed is usually bearish.

When are the Fed minutes released?

Three weeks after each decision, at 2pm New York time (usually 19:00 UK).
